About
Alvin Singh has been advocating for youth and education issues for more than 7 years. In 2001 he helped found a student-based lobby group that campaigned for seismic upgrades of all at risk schools. During the same time, Alvin served as President of the Vancouver Technical Student’s Council, Vice President of the District Student’s Council, and sat as a representative on the Board’s Committee II.
More recently, Alvin worked for Human Resources Social Development Canada, helping to craft social policy and was one of the founding directors of Vancouver25, a youth based progressive policy initiative for Vancouver. He has travelled to Mozambique, China, and Cyprus helping on development projects, working with students, and participating in conflict resolution exercises. He is currently a student at UBC, finishing his last year in International Development, Public Policy, and Urban Studies.
A firm believer in the need to allow students to voice their opinions in the decisions that impact them everyday, Alvin will continue to advocate for more student input, more transparency in the decision making process, and more comprehensive options for education in Vancouver’s schools.
